Some parents should never have been allowed to have children and April Corcoran is apparently one of them. When she didn’t have money for heroin, she forced her 11 year-old daughter to have sex with her dealer instead.
April Corcoran, 32, traded in her daughter with drug dealer Shandell Willingham so she could get heroin and even gave some to the child.
She is charged with human trafficking, corrupting another with drugs and endangering children.
An Ohio court heard how Willingham allegedly forced the girl to carry out sex acts, some of which were filmed in his home between February and June 2014.
The abuse only stopped when the girl moved to live with her father and stepmother and told them what happened.
Willingham, 42, was charged on 26 counts and also faces a life sentence.
He is already serving a 42-year prison sentence for unrelated crimes in another state.
Corcoran’s lawyer, James Bogan, reportedly told the court that she wanted to take ‘responsibility for her actions’ and did not wish her daughter any further trauma of having to testify on trial.
Hamilton County Prosecutor, Joseph Deters, told the court: ‘Even after all my years as a prosecutor, I continue to be amazed at how badly parents treat their children.
‘What this little girl endured is unimaginable and I can only hope that mum and drug dealer’s prosecution, the love and support of her family, and intense counselling will help this child regain some trust in the world.
‘This case is Exhibit A for how devastating heroin is to our communities.’
Luckily, April Corcoran was sentenced to 51 years to life in prison for trafficking her daughter for drugs in March 2015.
Corcoran pleaded guilty more than a year after she was indicted on charges that said she made a trade with her heroin dealer, Shandell Willingham, giving him her 11-year-old daughter in exchange for heroin.
Corcoran was indicted on 27 felony counts that included complicity, corrupting another with drugs (she gave them to her daughter), endangering children and trafficking in persons.
James Bogan, Corcoran’s attorney, said prosecutors had offered a plea deal with a 50-year sentence, which they rejected.
“My client does wish to take responsibility for her actions,” Bogan said. “She does not wish to have her daughter go through further trauma by having to testify at trial. She’s been very adamant about that with me. And, she knows that a sentence that amounts to life in prison is a very realistic possibility.”
Prosecutor Katherine Pridemore said we all know that drugs make people do “crazy things,” but she said that’s no excuse for Corcoran’s actions.
“At the same time, to offer up your child and you are the mother, it’s unfathomable,” Pridemore said. “I think you can tell when I was reading some of the facts my voice started cracking because it makes me so mad.”
Corcoran’s daughter is now living with her father out of the area, according to Pridemore.
This poor girl has been subjected to unspeakable cruelty and she’ll likely bear the emotional scars for the rest of her life. What kind of mother would do something so awful?
